During research for Write and Plant I came across this website http://www.atmosfair.de/ . Have uploaded it in Sugar CRM as contact for Write and Plant, but would be perhaps better as local sponsor for Berlin. @Eva, @otto – perhaps you look it up? It is a company dealing with eco-friendly travelling based in Berlin

    Eco branches/trees for hotels

    green branches

Hi guys, here also a nice idea to make our “accomodation” feature a bit more useful and green. Perhaps we could display trees instead of branches… And here the link: http://www.rezhub.com/Green-Travel.aspx

Like this idea – I think Eva suggested something similar. @Anne: what do you think of such small sign with “eco friendly because they plant every day 2.1 trees”?

Well, people need recognition, especially in this area… so it’s a good idea. Probably Carbonfund.org also offer this kind of certification banner or we develop our own system?!!

    A tree widget

    I plant a tree

Hi guys, I’m just surfing the internet and looking for different sponsors and I have found this nice widget. Will we have something like this too? Because I don’t know so far. The widget is linked with the site http://www.iplantatree.org . I have found it here http://www.kulau.de/ . This guys from Berlin are producing nearly everything from 100% coconut :)

Fresh support for the sales team: Welcome, Ed!

Hey team! Say HELLLOO to Ed Ockelton, who has just joined in! Ed will do sales for Write&Plant together with Dan and Matthew. We are happy to have fresh support in the team!

    Here some words from Ed:

“I studied Psychology at Nottingham University, and after graduation in 1996 I worked for a few years in market research, had a brief stint at the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and then worked for a large marketing organisation as an account manager.
edIn 2002, my wife and I set up a ski holiday business, White-Peak Holidays (www.white-peak.com), and we moved out to French Alps to give it a go. Now, nearly 8 years and two kids later, we love living in the mountains, and we love where we’ve got the business to.
I am now keen to become involved in a worthwhile and challenging project outside of the ski holiday world which is why I have started working with the Earth.org team. I also hope to find time to become an Ambassador for the French Alps.
Unsurprisingly, given where I live, I love all things mountain – skiing, ski touring, climbing, mountain biking and hiking. My ambition in life is to see as much of the world as I can, while I can.
I’m really looking forward to working with everyone and helping this great site grow.”

    Videoguy needs your feedback.

    Hello.

I created an animated storyboard for the upcoming video about write and plant.
Before I go ahead designing stuff I need your feedback. Please show the storyboard to someone who isn’t aware of earth.org yet and ask him/her…

    1) …whether the story is clear for him/her?

    2) …whether the thing with the Web 2.0 tree is somehow funny? ;-)

Thanks to every comment in advance!

Hope you guys are fine out there.

    phil

SUPER COOL! SPITZE! No comments :-)
ps: Yes, the web 2.0 tree is funny – as in the web you have so many virtual currencys, (karma) points, etc. We have the rule: Every communication message on Earth.org is to be understood by at least 90% of our audience – I guess this is the case here, even if most users will not know the term “web 2.0″.

    • Mathias 12:23 pm on November 4, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Whow, really great video!!!! Big compliments to Phil!
I’d go with the non web 2.0 tree, the extra wording that it’s not virtual makes it quite clear!

    • Vadim Zhernovoi 12:39 pm on November 4, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Wow, i like this style of videos. This is really great!
The only question my friends asked was like: „what is a web 2.0 tree?“ And they know what web 2.0 is ;)

    • Rob 12:52 pm on November 4, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Hi Phil, cool first draft indeed :) I like the intro of Earth.org a lot!

So I asked three people coming up with the following results:

      1. two out of three get the concept immediately and one was not sure if it was immediately clear to other people.
      2. one did not understand the “tree 2.0″, one kind of got it, and one got it (but was unsure if others would)

-> could be an idea to call it a ‘virtual’ tree instead of ‘tree 2.0′?

      • Rob 1:04 pm on November 4, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Ahh just hear you saying “virtual” Sorry :)

Another feedback (nr4): if the video is shown to people that are not on Earth.org and know nothing of the concept -> is then the introduction clear enough?

-> If this is a shared point of attention, it might be solved by visualization (something added to the row of silhouetes or something…) I would not make it longer anyway.

        • phil 6:15 pm on November 4, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

yeah, that was also one issue I found myself dealing with (feedback nr4)…
I’m not sure if I get you right – you think by adding something to the silhouttes it would be more clear that the viewer is part of it? Like a computer e.g.?

about the tree… maybe I should switch to “virtual” only… I mean, I showed it also to some other web geeks and they all told me that it is clear but could be a problem for others… “virtual” alone could solve the problem…

    • ute 2:03 pm on November 4, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

yes, i like, i like. Agree that Tree 2.0 is an odd reference and would also call it a virtual or cyber tree.

    • valentin 2:11 pm on November 4, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

love it! phil, great stuff. also think cyber tree would be better (sounds funnier than web20 to me) AND
i would not let people wait till almost half of the vid to reveal the w&p stuff. there are many travel guides but there is only one w&p out there. i am afraid that people turn the vid off to quickly?

      • phil 6:09 pm on November 4, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Good point. Maybe I could start with the WnP logo to get the attention about the project and then start explaining what it is about. I’ll try that! thanks.

      • alfreda 8:16 am on November 5, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

yes agree to the introduction (or perhaps the whole video?) being too long for me i got the tree part, but couldn’t really connect the “write” part.. maybe i take things too literally.. my 2 cents, will wait for next revision. :)

    • kosmar 2:25 pm on November 4, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

nice storyline. still needs some tempo or at least crescendo/allegro parts, as its still too uniform in perception. and of course differnt music. you should check whats out as creative commons music like sojusrecords.com or at jamendo, blueorangerecords.com

      • phil 6:08 pm on November 4, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Well, I hope you are aware of the fact that this is not the final animation. It’s just some kind of storyboard which should help developing the story. I will add some smooth dynamic animation later.
And I don’t get why you say “of course different music” – can you explain that a bit more? The music in the draft is created by me with the help of royality free samples.

        • kosmar 9:05 pm on November 4, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

sure. i just felt like the music being too smooth. it cool if you want to work on the music yourself – anyway creative commons music would also go well with the creative commons asprecte of earth.org. thats the background.

        • Vadim Zhernovoi 10:14 am on November 5, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

I disagree, i like the music very much! It gives the whole video a special warm flair, so you have my 100% yes for it.

    • Imogen 2:28 pm on November 4, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

LOVE this! It is cute, simple (without being too simplistic) and I like the Tree 2.0…. It’s pretty clear that the point of the joke is ‘There’s nothing virtual about your contribution’ (right? :-) )

    • david 6:29 pm on November 4, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Nice phil … good thing you said its just a storyboard. Its so good someone could think it was final :-)

Kanye West is an eternal source of inspiration and we should give him an honorary position in our team.

Something like video manager or maybe he could even be our main spokesperson! I already envision him showing up at all the interweb events shouting out how great Earth.org is :)

Our main video volunteer Cano (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrPpIkife7Y) will unfortunately not be able to help us with videos until December or so. A trip back home and a hectic period at work prevents him from making for example the Write and Plant video.

If you know any great and creative film-makers/ animators/ etc. who would be interested in working on something very cool as a volunteer project, let me know!

hmm, could maybe ask the media department on my former university — but I don’t know whether they’d like to do something like this and what the quality will be (neither when it would be finished…)

    • otto 9:24 am on October 14, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

      Hi Rob,

If we have one video volunteer who would help us in case we have a clear story board, I suggest to do a simple story board and consider him.

I am sure there will be someone writing a short story board.

      Otto
