Here we come – Ambassador power on Earth.org

I’m very happy to present you the new intro’s of our Earth.org Ambassadors!

Be sure to link with each other in social networks and keep in touch! A warm welcome to all of you :)

    Matthew Kovacs

I have only scratched the surface, really, yet enough to know that travelling is not something to be taken lightly. Travelling gives us all the opportunity to find out more about ourselves while exploring the culture of others first hand. Travel has brought me to live in places like Wales, Japan, Slovakia, Taiwan, and now Luxembourg. It is not easy to sum up into words what makes one place so special or different from the next, but I think it is for this challenge that I have joined the team.

    Julia Tikunova

Hey all! I’m Julia and I’m Moscow Ambassador at Earth.org. That’s because I’m Russian and spent quite a long time in beautiful Moscow. When I moved to US, I worked for a green startup that promote recycling waste into renewable energy. And for the next 2 years my home has moved to a small French town across Versailles, where at HEC business school I study entrepreneurship. The most interesting thing in travelling for me is exploring new cultures; that’s why I welcome any opportunity not only to travel as a tourist, but also to stay in a country as a local. I joint Earth.org because it’s a great media platform to promote responsible travelling with respect to local communities and their traditions.

“I’ve joined Earth.org to become a citizen of the world beyond the boundaries of countries.”

Babu Mohanan is Earth.org Ambassador of Kerala in India. He talked with Rafael, who coordinates the worldwide network of Earth.org Ambassadors, about the Ambassadors mission.

Rafael: Babu, you are living in Thiruvanathapuram. Can you explain us the long name?

Babu: Long place names are very common in this part of world. In the Colonial days, the English might have found it difficult so they called the city Trivandrum. The Name “Thiruvanathapuram” can be split into three words “Thiru”, “Anantha” and “Puram” Puram means city. There are at least two opinions about the meaning of the word “Anatha”.Some say it was derived from the the famous temple in the city. Some say it has roots in Jainism. The first word “Thiru” is an honorific which modifies a noun like a persons name (or a place name in some cases). The usage is something similar to the English “Mr.” or the French “Monsieur”. Learn more here

Babu_EarthRafael: You have joined the Earth.org team as second Ambassador for Kerala State in India. You will cooperate with Mathai Fenn, also Ambassador of Kerala. What expectations do you bring with you?

Babu: I want to work on providing more knowledge about Kerala to the world. I want to tell the world about its unique cultural past. I also want to post many pictures about its attractive geography.

Rafael: You are working in the field of customer support. Perhaps you can share with us ideas how to improve the usability of the Earth.org website and how to improve the project?

Babu: We need to attract more people to our site and also collect feedback from them about its usability.

Rafael: Why did you join Earth.org? What was your motivation?

Babu: To become a citizen of the world beyond the boundaries of countries.

Rafael: What place we have to visit beeing in Kerala State?

Babu: I will say that this depends on the visitor. Many come here to see the greenery and the backwaters. Some come here to get Ayurvedic treatment. A lot of people are attracted to its culture and dance forms.

Rafael: And a last but not least question: What is your wish for Earth.org?

Babu: Earth.org should become a place where people meet and share their knowledge about places in the world.

Rafael: Thanks for joining Earth.org, Babu!

They are linked to WordPress, so it means every time you comment on a WP site using one of the emails you have linked to your Gravatar account, the picture you uploaded there will automatically display.

Fresh support for the sales team: Welcome, Ed!

Hey team! Say HELLLOO to Ed Ockelton, who has just joined in! Ed will do sales for Write&Plant together with Dan and Matthew. We are happy to have fresh support in the team!

    Here some words from Ed:

“I studied Psychology at Nottingham University, and after graduation in 1996 I worked for a few years in market research, had a brief stint at the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and then worked for a large marketing organisation as an account manager.
edIn 2002, my wife and I set up a ski holiday business, White-Peak Holidays (www.white-peak.com), and we moved out to French Alps to give it a go. Now, nearly 8 years and two kids later, we love living in the mountains, and we love where we’ve got the business to.
I am now keen to become involved in a worthwhile and challenging project outside of the ski holiday world which is why I have started working with the Earth.org team. I also hope to find time to become an Ambassador for the French Alps.
Unsurprisingly, given where I live, I love all things mountain – skiing, ski touring, climbing, mountain biking and hiking. My ambition in life is to see as much of the world as I can, while I can.
I’m really looking forward to working with everyone and helping this great site grow.”

    Eva, welcome to Earth.org!

Eva Müller is joining Earth.org! Together with Dan she will take care of the sales/ business developement.

Eva, we are happy to have you with us!

    Hello to everyone!
I am Eva and from now on I am gonna support Earth.org. Together with Dan I will find local sponsors for our lovely project. Since a lot of you are already involved for a long time in Earth.org, I am sure you can support me with a lot of  ideas and thoughts and answer all the questions, I have in the beginning. Thanx!

Eva_kleinBut before I can really start supporting you, Iam going on a great adventure: This saturday I am moving from Germany to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to live there for (hopefully) two years. So in the moment I am kind of busy saying goodbye to my friends and to my family and preparing the last things for South-America. But from next week on, I am 100 % available, 100 % working and 100 % Earth.org!!!

Before I decided to move to Buenos Aires, I lived for six years in Berlin (Hamburg and Toronto), where I studied “Strategic Planning and Marketing” at the University of the Arts. This summer I worked for an online startup (real estate). I was responsible for the sales. By the way, that’s also where I met Otto, who used to work in the same office as me. And this is how I came to Earth.org. And now I am here. And I am happy. And I hope you are too.

    Greetings from Germany!
    Eva

I am busy with the redesign everybody is awaiting (hopefully :) Since already two month now i am working on this task, and enjoy the company of many great people also working on this. Unluckily i had some things going on, so i pushed the redesign a bit into the background. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel, i am going to invest definatly more time into Earth in the near future.

TristanAs for my background, i gratuated in March this year, and became a qualified Communication Designer in Dortmund, Germany.

Ok thats all folks, i am still excited to be part of the team and look forward to meet more people, and create more awsome things for this community as well.

Get the story of Rafael & the Earth.org Ambassadors

A very warm welcome to the team, Rafael! He is our new Earth.org Ambassador Coordinator from Poland/Germany.

    rafael“Dear Earth.org Ambassadors and team,

I’am going to join a team of our planet’s enthusiasts – that means “nothing human is alien to me”. I give my best to manage the responsible position of an ambassador-program-coordinator and I hope You as community will help me to learn fast and do my best. Do not hesitate to give me advice and feedback, criticize and explain! I’ am a new team player on the Earth.org boat.

Perhaps first – a few words focusing on my person: I’m Rafael or also Rafał – as I’am called in Poland – “my second birthplace”. Originally I come from one of the hanseatic cities in Germany: Hamburg. In the year 2002 I decided to move to Poland to find and live my second identity: the polish origin.

Over the years I made a lot of experiences by traveling up and down Europe, especially the Balkans have found a big place in my heart. The non-profit approach isn’t alien to me, for the reason that I was organizing various journalistic projects for youth on local level as a member of a non-governmental organization NGO.

Now, just married a week ago, I look forward to a completely new chapter in my life: a new job, new expectations, moving to Berlin – Germany’s capital city and starting the great new Earth.org-project, which I hope that’ll find followers in every corner of our common planet Earth… !”
