@catfraser madame, please take a look: http://www.guardian.co.uk/observer-ethical-awards do you think we should be part of it … just to give it a try?? It’s in the UK, can you check the categories and if it’s worth to nominate Earth.org?

“Earth.org has gone Google” – do you remember the video Otto made in Bali, explaining why we use Google Apps? Well, we sent that video to Google. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXqHLbpe9ic)
Today I got an email from Vivian, who is part of Google’s Marketing team, telling me that they would like to show our video at an internal Google event to the audience. Yeah yeah yeah!!!
I just imagine who will be sitting there watching our video… it’s the Google team! :-D

It’s getting loud! That’s us, your PR team

Alba (Spain), Beatrix (Ireland), Sophie (UK), Cat (UK), Olivia (UK) and Teresa (Austria)…… SAY HELLO!

We are Earth.org’s megaphone… trumpet… ghettoblaster… we are telling the world about Earth.org. And there are so many things to say.

Today is D-Day in PR, we start sending out a general press release containing the aims/goals/the heart of Earth.org. We have collected many contacts (bloggers and journalists who focus on travel, travel industry, travel 2.0, web, crazy new ideas and projects, etc); till end of January we hope to get 1.000 emails out to a very targeted audience. Our goal: Get as many articles and posts published as possible!

While we’re at it, we have created a social media news release, that YOU can push as well, simply by re-tweet, bookmarks, stumble upon, digg, friend feed, share on Facebook, technorati,  or on your blog. We need EVERY posted link to create awareness!! Please help:

    http://pressitt.com/smnr/earthorg-helps-you-travel-the-world/774/

What’s next: In February we will focus on remote work, in March the Ambassador program will be pushed. The general Earth.org topics will go out throughout the upcoming months, of course modified with cool new features!

Oookay, we get loud now. Let’s do it!!!!!!!!!

Please send me your English copy to review!

Since we took the decision to open all our internal dialogue to everyone, this blog has become our global hub of all project-related communication.

And as more people stumble across earth.org and join in, both internal and external documents have an increasing number of people contributing and collaborating – in different styles; tones; and varied levels of good, clear English.

Whilst it is great for the project that so many are getting involved, please consider those who may be experiencing Earth.org for the first time via the blog or an email broadcast.

If earth.org wishes to be a credible, global English (English UK rather than English US language) brand,  we need to be more consistent and acurate in our English broadcast communication whenever we can.

Teresa has already done a fantastic job of defining a clear global writing style across all press releases, web content and newsletters; and as a native English speaker (based in the UK)  I am always working along-side her as an English copywriter to ensure the grammer is 100% correct before publishing. But this process shouldn’t stop here.

So whether it is a new blog post you are working on, copy for an email or a quick post on a social media channel that you feel needs a quick edit or grammer check, please send all english copy to cat (at) earth.org for review.

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas to all at EDO!

Does it really matter how pure your english is? I live in a country with 13 official languages and a new language that we call “fanigalo” has been created.A mish mash of all , mostly english. It is impure english, yet we understand each other. If you focus on the Queen’s english, and worry more about grammar that content, well, in my opinion, you will exclude a lot of people.Don’t be descriptive, focus on inclusive.Language isnt a big barrier to communication after all. true intent is a universal language.

yes it does matter. we want to come across as professional as possible on the official communication. thanks cat.

Great Cat, thanks for your help. From my side, I need your help for
      - our job adverts in HR: http://www.earth.org/jobs?
      - a couple of emails patterns
      - and a quick look to the sponsor/write and plant presentations would be also useful, I think. I’ll send you everything in the next days!

Thank you very much Cat, that is a great offer. I am going to send you the presentation of the Sponsor and Plant project. THANX!!! Eva

Hi Cat! 1) Thanks for this help – and you will anyhow priorize your topics in a way that you might not find the time to review a normal blog post, 2) Suggest not to display your email ID here openly – this will result in SPAM (I changed this for you here) & 3) Merry Christmas to you tooooooo!

@Cat, thank you very much for your offer. I’ll be among your clients… :-)

@Talent, I also understand what you mean by including other people without barriers. I agree with it and I think that Earth.org does not want to discriminate anybody. As far as I understand the good quality and inclusion can go together since everybody can write (this is why is Earth.org open), but an eye to detail would be appreciated.

Good morning post for you: Earth.org is top story on ekoVenture.com:

“Earth.org has truly implemented a unique idea – one that will benefit a community of travelers. We all know that if there is one thing a journeyer likes to do, it is write, blog, and share their experiences. Earth.org relies on this ideal, and has successfully provided content on obscure and unique destinations around the world.”

PR UK meeting with Sophie and Olivia

    • teresa 5:55 pm on December 2, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

et voila, here some news from our UK PR team:

      - both are working well together on entering the UK student market. They contact different universities and student magazines. Aside they are sending mails to “gap year students” – young people who take a one year break to travel around before they go to university – and there are a lot! They ask them to report their experiences on Earth.org. Furthermore they are looking for new volunteers – Sophie is going to publish another article in “The Knowledge” – this time focusing on volunteering @ Earth.org.
      - Olivia is researching websites for elderly people – the silver surfers – who actually do travel a lot – and use the Internet heavily for booking and research. She’s planning to start contacting these people in her hometown – and evaluate the results so that we can start thinking of a nation wide strategy for the silver surfers.
      - super cool news: Olivia and Sophie managed to get us a stall at a nation wide volunteer fair in UK in February 2010. We will have a “Earth.org table” where they present Earth.org’s volunteering project – and distribute handouts, business cards,
@Rob the girls told me that they can print a poster at their university quite cheap – they will send me a list of what they’d need to build a nice Earth.org stall :-)
@HR would be perfect to have a complete overview on what kind of volunteer positions Earth.org is offering. I will send you an email on that!

Emily, our new PR UK manager, has excellent contacts to different kinds of offline/online media in the UK; she is responsible for contacting them. We will meet this week and see where to start!

That’s it for now! we will tell you about the results :-D
      Enjoy your evening all.

Hi all! We have fresh support in the PR UK team — I just talked to Emily Shaw in a 2nd meeting; she is very happy to become part of Earth.org and she will be taking care of online/offline media in the UK as she has excellent contacts to magazines and newspapers; I will introduce her asap and she will join us here on the blog.
Emily, it’s really nice to have you in the team! Looking forward already to working with you.

@olivia @sophie I’d love to have you 3 girls in a meeting by the beginning of next week! Super UK power :-D

And many thanks to our HR team — for finding such great new team members joining the project :-D
