Hello guys! Just had a talk with Rafael about Facebook.

Currently we have one group and two fan pages. We will push everything to one unique fan page and will inform the other group members and fans about its existence:

    http://www.facebook.com/earth.org

The goal is to have travel-related stuff there from the ambassadors and from the content volunteers. New articles with pictures will also be added to make it more interesting! It would be great if you could also have a quick look from time to time to discuss with our users/ambassadors/fan/lovers?!! Thank you!!

I am currently testing http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/faux-facebook-connect/ ( a plugin to allow people to comment via facebook login ). Is this something we would want to allow here?

Earth.org now connects to Facebook. Just one password, one username, one click.

Earth.org has released a new feature: Earth.org travellers can now log onto http://www.earth.org with their Facebook account. Joining our  Earth.org community has never been so easy.

With one password, one username and one click. Facebook Connect matters. It is changing how we integrate our daily lives with Facebook and throughout the web. For millions of people, Facebook has become their single, most important online identity.

Earth.org now enables every user to take their Facebook identity with them. Earth.org travellers can now create their new account or log onto http://www.earth.org with absolute convenience – simply by connecting with their Facebook account.

And that is how it works.

    • You are new at Earth.org? There is no need to create a new account on Earth.org. Just click on “Login” and you will see the button “Facebook Connect”. Enter your email and password that you use for Facebook and you can start exploring Earth.org.
    • You already have an Earth.org account? Log in with your Facebook password and email and we will check your existing account. You can then log in with your Facebook account every time you visit http://www.earth.org.

Please note: When you log out of Earth.org using Facebook Connect, you will be logged out of Facebook as well. Your privacy settings that are provided on Facebook are retained on Earth.org.

Many thanks to our web application developer Emran Hasan from Bangladesh, who has realised Facebook Connect for Earth.org.

@emran @slobodan thanks for implementing. when i click fb connect pop up does not show. site seems slow at the moment probably down to recache. also i have now createda duplicate profile thouht you guys found a way to match it?

i mean when you create the profile with fb and you already have one you should at least give them the possibility to match their profiles?

      Thanks Emran for the surprise.
For me it works, still as in V. case It is super slow. On this page http://www.earth.org/fbconnect?login=1 the information is a little irritating and difficult to understand (e.g. why should I create a fresh account on Earth.org if you ask me to log in with my old one?)
@emran: Can you add up some more information here and also explain if we can feed our contritutions to FB and some more information for the team in general.

    You are our best promoters!

    Hi everyone!

YOU, our team, volunteers, ambassadors, users and readers:

    You are our best promoters!

You know Earth.org, you know why you LOVE it and you can best explain why other people should start loving it too!!

So go out, communicate and talk to people about the travel guide, about our remote work, about our non-profit approach, about our blog etc. etc. etc.

    Go on and:

    • communicate on your Twitter account and link to our pages!
    • mention your hometown on Earth.org in your Facebook status updates
    • publish links to our videos on your social networks
    • Tag our pages (travel guide, blog, remote work, jobs, etc.) on your Delicious account!
    • Rate Earth.org on Rateitall!
    • Comment and rate our Youtube videos!

And I am sure there are more options!

Let your suggestions be heard in the comments! Share with everyone else how you used your voice to communicate the messages of Earth.org!

Together we will make a lot of noise :)

i agree with this, but maybe let’s wait we have the redesign and messaging going live so that the traffic we drive by these efforts converts into more new users from an improved web experience.

No problem Steve! Everybody should start already! After redesign everyone will have a great NEW reason to shout out again :)

        Go forth and communicate thyselves!

    Find us on Facebook :)

facebook-logoWe have started a group at Facebook because we think it is a great way to keep in touch with people and to gather some friends for the cause! And of course because we want Earth.org to be as social as possible!!

General response to the group so far has been very good, with a lot of people joining and we expect it to become even bigger once we start posting news, updates and some amazing contests. These are some of the things you will be finding at our Facebook group in the near future:

    • Updates on Earth.org
    • News
    • Discussion Boards
    • Contests
    • Polls

    How you can participate:

    • First of all you can join the group of course!
    • You can upload photos and videos of your recent or past travelling experiences.
    • You can give traveler tips to other members willing to travel to a place where you have already been.
    • You can start discussion topics, polls, make top lists..and see what the others think.
    • And don’t forget to invite your friends as well :)
