Working on all the eng copy requests sitting in my inbox!!
Will endeavour to get back to everyone asap and looking forward to catching up with @teresa hopefully later today!
Since we took the decision to open all our internal dialogue to everyone, this blog has become our global hub of all project-related communication.
And as more people stumble across earth.org and join in, both internal and external documents have an increasing number of people contributing and collaborating – in different styles; tones; and varied levels of good, clear English.
Whilst it is great for the project that so many are getting involved, please consider those who may be experiencing Earth.org for the first time via the blog or an email broadcast.
If earth.org wishes to be a credible, global English (English UK rather than English US language) brand, we need to be more consistent and acurate in our English broadcast communication whenever we can.
Teresa has already done a fantastic job of defining a clear global writing style across all press releases, web content and newsletters; and as a native English speaker (based in the UK) I am always working along-side her as an English copywriter to ensure the grammer is 100% correct before publishing. But this process shouldn’t stop here.
So whether it is a new blog post you are working on, copy for an email or a quick post on a social media channel that you feel needs a quick edit or grammer check, please send all english copy to cat (at) earth.org for review.
Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas to all at EDO!
Dear colleagues and Earth.org friends,
There is some important mover and shaker news to be noted from the Earth.org marketing team. I will be moving out of the marketing lead position and I am handing over to Anne for marketing management responsibilities starting 1 February 2010.
I tell you this with great pain in my heart. Earth.org has become an important and large part of my life, but recent opportunities in my other job at NHTV University in Breda led to a situation in which I needed to make this tough decision. I surely wish that I could continue on both fronts, but due to time-constraints this is sadly not possible.
But please note: I WILL NOT BE GONE! I mean, how could I? I will stay in the team on a volunteer basis, you’ll see me commenting on the blog, sharing travel knowledge on the website and above all supporting Anne in sales and marketing wherever I can and wherever needed.
For the immediate future, I don’t think that we could have introduced anyone better our own Anne for taking over the marketing responsibilities. She is already deeply involved in the project, she knows all the people involved, and we know that especially from a knowledge and dedication point of view she will be a perfect match. Furthermore, her sales experience and communication skills will be a great driver for Earth.org at a time where outward communication is what we need most!
Practically: for the coming two months, I am still here and in order to make sure that Anne knows everything she needs to know in order to take over in February, we will start to involve her in all marketing related matters immediately.
Warm regards from Breda,
Rob
Thanks for everything you’ve done for EDO and gald to see you’re sticking around as a volunteer!!!
Have fun with your endeavours at NHTV! Keep rockin mate!
If you are wondering now… yesss, you are right, Tristan has been in our team already for a while
Now he wants to introduce himself so that you get to know him better!
Tristan, we are happy to have you on board!
Hey guys.
I finally found some time to write a bit about me and my involvement in the Earth.org project. I am busy with the redesign everybody is awaiting (hopefully
Since already two month now i am working on this task, and enjoy the company of many great people also working on this. Unluckily i had some things going on, so i pushed the redesign a bit into the background. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel, i am going to invest definatly more time into Earth in the near future.
As for my background, i gratuated in March this year, and became a qualified Communication Designer in Dortmund, Germany.
Ok thats all folks, i am still excited to be part of the team and look forward to meet more people, and create more awsome things for this community as well.
Cu at earth,
Tristan
Great to read more about you and fantastic to have you on the team!
wow thats late dude
haha just kidding. glad your with us!
ladies and gents the man behind the design!
Good to see you on the blog Tristan – welcome also here!
Hi Tristan, see you are multitasking too. A warm welcome.
hi tristan! glad to read more about you here
More and more people and new team members are asking me: who are you, Earth.org team? what is Slobodan doing here? What are Cat’s tasks? Where is Mathias from? They can only see our small pics here and wonder what kind of people we are ![]()
Let me think… maybe we start a remake of our “Earth.org homestories” here on P2… or just a short interview… any ideas? I’d like to post that once a week.
Yes, would be nice to link the user name here on this blog to either a permalink of this blog, or to the internal pages. The first is much easier.
And it would be nice to see the location of everyone. Still, let us think simple. We can also rename our usernames here e.g. from otto -> otto from Bali

Does it really matter how pure your english is? I live in a country with 13 official languages and a new language that we call “fanigalo” has been created.A mish mash of all , mostly english. It is impure english, yet we understand each other. If you focus on the Queen’s english, and worry more about grammar that content, well, in my opinion, you will exclude a lot of people.Don’t be descriptive, focus on inclusive.Language isnt a big barrier to communication after all. true intent is a universal language.

Great Cat, thanks for your help. From my side, I need your help for
- our job adverts in HR: http://www.earth.org/jobs?
- a couple of emails patterns
- and a quick look to the sponsor/write and plant presentations would be also useful, I think. I’ll send you everything in the next days!

Hi Cat! 1) Thanks for this help – and you will anyhow priorize your topics in a way that you might not find the time to review a normal blog post, 2) Suggest not to display your email ID here openly – this will result in SPAM (I changed this for you here) & 3) Merry Christmas to you tooooooo!

@Cat, thank you very much for your offer. I’ll be among your clients…
@Talent, I also understand what you mean by including other people without barriers. I agree with it and I think that Earth.org does not want to discriminate anybody. As far as I understand the good quality and inclusion can go together since everybody can write (this is why is Earth.org open), but an eye to detail would be appreciated.
