Here the weekly Ambassador power
Here some more Ambassadors introduce themselves
Jacintha de Kruijff – Rome
Hey! I’m Jacintha from the Netherlands; Ever since I was born I live in
a little city called Asperen. At this moment I am studying International
Tourism Management and Consultancy at the NHTV in Breda. I joined
Earth.org for a school assignment and started to write articles about
Rome. I became interested in Rome and I like the idea of Earth.org as a
travelguide, therefore I decided to become an Ambassador.Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?ref=profile&id=1549336489
Hyves: http://jacintha-no9.hyves.nl/Gaita Wamucii – Nairobi
Gaita Wamucii here – the Earth.org ambassador for Nairobi – the city in the sun and the place of cool waters. Born and brought up in the beautiful wild plains of Laikipia-Kenya, I have enjoyed the beauty and serenity of living close to the innocence of wild animals. It’s great to have reliable travel information availed by people who know their locations quite well, so I joined the ambassador program to become part of this noble collective effort.
Adrian Petersen – Piedmont
Hi I’m Adrian the Earth.Org Ambassador for Piedmont in Italy. I arrived here just over two years ago from the UK. A series of visits to Italy for holidays as well as business over many years and a general disillusionment with the UK led me to achieve my goal of living a new life, with my wife, here in the beautiful region of Piedmont. I now spend my time researching, writing and blogging about my adopted country, from a local and sometimes national perspective.
Earth.Org interests me because I like the simple and positive philosophy, the non profit approach and the fact that Earth.org is independent from business interests. I really hope it achieves its goal to provide travellers with a community for responsible travel information and that I can play a small part in achieving that goal.
You can catch me at:

Phillip Barea – Somalia
I am a lecturer and researcher at Admas University; in Hargeisa, Somaliland (northern Somalia). I am originally from Puerto Rico; and am a bilingual (Spanish-English) professional with extensive work experience in advocacy, communications, education, international affairs, and humanitarian project management. My academic experience is focused on the research and analysis of issues in international affairs, government, armed conflict resolution, and international law.

Hello from Chennai, India
To make things perfectly clear – a warm welcome to Ali. Just feel free to post on the blog
Its great to see so many from India to have joined Earth.org for a common cause!!
I’m Ali Asghar from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. I’m a Telecommunications Engineer by education and a budding entrepreneur having started my company some time ago with a friend.
What brings me to earth.org is the urge to make some contribution to the world we live in. With globalization and industrialization at its peak, the need to preserve and safeguard Mother Nature is more greater today than ever before. Therefore, I believe that it is the collective responsibility of all individuals to ensure that we leave back a world which is inhabitable and safe for our future generations. This can only be possible if we conduct ourselves as responsible citizens of the world.
My interests include debating, reading, blogging, trekking and travelling.

I landed here after a sweet life in Italy, a sophisticated adventure in New York, a comfortable life in Colombia and awsome travelling in between all aimed to within seeking of truth and coolness. I'm just working on the steps for Ambas…
I’m just working on the steps for Ambassadors and I have made the experience, that when I click “contribute” or “share recomendation” it is closing all my open windows, when I’m using Windows Explorer. For Mozilla it works. I think it is a problem for the tech team. Don’t know if you have experienced it too?

Best five islands to explore in Hong Kong
The 236 islands forming Hong Kong are the very essence of the whole city. Their landscape and lifestyle is always unbelievably cool and refreshing. Their history is the very starting point of one of the most populated and modern areas of the world.
Ping Chau
The awesome thing of this island is that the highest top along the main hiking trail, at the pagoda, is the only spot in Hong Kong from where the whole city can be watched at 360 degree. Super for round photo shooting. Another record of this island ofteh bicycles is the fact that it is location to the oldest factory of all China: the government is still struggling on if recuperating or demolishing the building half visible next to a tall coconut tree along the promenade. The flora is interesting for the knowledgeable eyes here. Two amazing shops very closely located not to be missed out: the traditional ceramic where small groups can sit down for a spontaneous workshop: the lady artist will supply them with colours, tools and tips for painting. The Ta Tsu Koi Chinese antique furniture, a family business shop which is also shipping the goods abroad to the visitor’s countries. In front of the ceramic art shop to be absolutely tasted the sticky rice cakes, especially the herbal deep green one enveloped in a leaf. One of the most multicultural islands in all Hong Kong, dining turns to be a great experience in Ping Chau for the variety of food available: Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, Chinese, Cantonese.

Cheung Chau Island
It is one of the major islands in Hong Kong. About one hour ferry from Central harbour in downtown. This is the perfect place to go on Summertime for windsurfing and kite playing. Kwun yam, one of two in the island, is considered a A grade beach. Because of the huge rocking platforms on some traits of the coastline this is also a pleasant place to hike and shot breathtaking pictures. Walking downtown among the shops is pleasant and there are interesting local things to shop. San Hing Praya is the Street running along the coastline with all the typical houses and plenty of shops. Really cheap and fresh seafood restaurants deserve a stop for a delicious and filling dinner. For a snack moment, people love to queue up for the original crunchy potato skewers, the delicious deep fried tofu and fish balls along the street. In addiction a lot of art crafting affordable shops can be seen: “Adagio” is selling cool stuff from Tibet and fabrics sewed by the owner herself inside the shop.
Mui Wo in Lantau Island
Fascinating old village, still very much intact in all its features. The perfect day trip to enjoy a wide light gray sandy beach. An artistical touch is given to this place by some very good local painters living here. A more natural paradisiacal touch is hidden right behind the hotel on the pier: a beautiful waterfall surrounded by lavish green and peace. From Mui Wo starts the long hiking trail on Lantau.
Tung Ping Chau
A WWF reserve with tropical blue sea. Best site for coral growing in the shallow waters; with a heavenly landscape of huge flat rocky platforms unique in their genre the geo marine habitat here looks just amazing and pure. At times teams of volunteer visitors are organized on the field to clean up some spots. It is possible to sleep overnight or camping for very small groups. Dining at the ruined villages is very cheap and traditional with fresh seafood and vegetables to choose. Genuine feeling of holiday all pervading on this special little island. The best is to reach after 2 hours boat from Ma On Shan side.
Lamma island
The coolest for its artistical attractions. The wildest for the environment. Lots of European families landed in Hk decided to settle down here despite the rustic houses and all kinds of interesting animals (lots of snakes they say) populating. When arriving at the harbor, about 20 minutes from HK mainland, the visitor may probably run into some native lady selling tasty hand cooked red bean sweet soup or cookies. By following the main narrow street the whole greenish and easygoing, wild and relaxed environment will disclose. There are 2 things to pay attention about while hiking around Lamma. One is the strong smell of its flowers scattered in mass at any corner like in a big garden. The other is the artistically sometimes extravagant touch exhibited by shops and restaurants. Romantic sets have been created at the outdoor tables of all the restaurants. The tea time here means traditional or western home made cakes. Lamma is perfect for family outings. At dinner or lunch tasty, fresh and expensive fish for all the visitors to choose directly from the big tanks outside each restaurant. The sunset along the main hiking trail is awesome. There is an interesting organic farm on the mountain very easy to reach; the walk is more less mild, okey for kids, and lasts about an hour or so up to the farm. The entire circuit takes about 2 or 3 hours to be completed. A main beach with restaurants aside is good for resting or swimming.

Ok, I think I am a little bit lost…. These (wonderful) articles are blog posts – are they also on the HK section of EDO?
-
Rob
I asked Rafael to clarify this also, when they are online, please add a link to the content so that people can find the context and read more about the destination
-
Imogen
Solved: These are being blogged but not posted on EDO. Even more reason to finish the How-To guide for writers (Imogen, take note!)

Rafael
Hi guys, thanks for your infos. I’m aware of the problem. Have seen your both emails now. Will fix the situation asap.

I was just thinking about a language section for every country (I know there is one, but I don’t think that would be the correct category). A couple of important sentences could be useful. What do you think?
-
Thomas
…good idea Mareike — that’s why a “travel dictionary” with basic phrases is planned!

Where would you think it would be most useful?-
lifeofmareike
How about putting it into travel essentials of one country? But then would there be the possibility to put it on travel essentials of EVERY location within this country? Because somebody looking for Paris won’t necessarily search in the general information for France…
Errr I just realized that this is a general problem: Categories like tipping and behavior should have the same content for the country and all its cities/ towns, but I also know that this couldn’t work with bigger countries like India or the US. What could we do about it???
-
Rafael
Hi Mareike,
great that you bring so much ideas with you. Thomas is the right person to adress this suggestion. It is allready this way that such general informations like languages are displayed at all the locations of a country. I think it could be really added there. @imogen – perhaps you have an idea to integrate it in the best way? -
radha
maybe we can refer to a basic-phrase material for cities only, not for countries; for cities with a “high population of languages”, cities which are holding in languages the essence of their advanced or fastly rising multiculturality. For example Hk would be one of these kinds with more than 300 languages spoken among 8 millions people. i guess there are several cities like that on earth~

Thanks again to you Eva, super! @valentinyeo, @alfreda – perhaps we could add the screencast-videos, which are already on YouTube, as a nice small guide for how to use CC-content somewhere in the editing box of the articles. Just to show userfriendly how much sources are there and how to use them. I personally think the short video expalins more then much text. What do you think?
Cristiano 3:21 pm on January 23, 2010 Permalink | Log in to Reply
I suggest to have a tutorial section in “About us” and link it in the help and in other pages also as Rafael suggest.
valentinyeo 12:15 am on January 26, 2010 Permalink | Log in to Reply
sorry guys i don’t wanna get on your nerves. while the screencast is good work i am fairly critical as to wether this is time spent well. the screen where the editor is is going to be changed quite soon. that means you have to do it again… the site is morphing so much these days.
