We have decided not to continue with Ear…
We have decided not to continue with Earth.org – with immediate effect.
Some might think why?
We have ten thousands of users visiting the site every month and they have not done what we suggested them to do: Become engaged and contributing users on the open travel guide Earth.org. And spread the news to friends – the growth base for every website. This is the core of our decision – what else shall it be?
Some might think why so soon?
We have been working over years on this website – always with a 100% positive approach. We can either be 100% positive – or we do not work for Earth.org. This was always our thinking. We do not think there is a world in-between.
And now?
We continue to stay positive – this was by far greatest team experience most of us ever had: We see, also after this decisions and our talks to each other, that we enjoyed working on Earth.org, we have had an incredible learning curve and a small universe of pictures and situations pass bye, maybe even and especially because we have been such an international remote team. Thank you team, you were the best – and you will continue to be!

I am logging in for one of the last times probably. It feels really strange that what has been such a big part of my life for the past few years, will not just be left behind, it will be gone. It feels like I am loosing a really good friend…
I want to thank everyone who I have had the honour and pleasure to work with here at Earth.org. Your fantastic positive spirit and dedicated involvement has only strenghtened my belief that we live in a beautiful world, with beatiful people. And that if we find a way to “connect” and work together on a common cause, we can truly change the world. This team achieved something amazing with Earth.org, something that we can be really proud of, don’t forget that!
And finally, I want to say a special word of thanks to Otto and Mathias, for giving me the wonderful opportunity to be part of it all.
See you around,
Rob

Just learned of this decision via tnooz. Sorry to see this as I was just admiring the site a few days ago!
Would you consider letting the content you have live on though?! If I am not mistaken our wiki travel guides share the same creative commons license and we would be very happy to see if there isn’t some way to work your content into what we already have. I believe we share a very similar philosophy, and I’m sure our team of regular contributors would love this opportunity. We are also a few million characters short of our goal of 20 million to donate over 6000 dollars worth of hippo rollers to Africa and this would help a lot, thus letting the effort put in here touch the lives of thousands in Africa for years to come. Naturally we will be able to attribute it in some way.
I have to say I am sad that it looks like we will now be the only independent wiki travel guide left

Some blogs might have misunderstood this post in a way that we blame our users for failing. It was never intended like this, and we would like to correct this: Obviously we built a far too complex product and we have made big mistakes in product design. Our usability team and the technical team tried to reduce complexity over the last months, but realistically it would take 12 months to finish something, what creates good value and fun to our users.
We say sorry for these misleading words.
