we can be in touch on this cyber place or on facebook, i don’t approve the final decision, but i respect it…
We can continue the adventure in publish article about the place that we really like on EDO ? the team stop but the web site is always open, no? for me EDO isn’t only an earth story, it’s people too, people who sharing a passion, the same dream… may be we can thinking about a new concept with the same target… the subject stay open … if somebody wants to speack with me : http://mtellier.tel

We have decided all together not to use the blog for communication. Many will keep the @earth.org email id’s – we are connected on all social networks, and anyhow, we will stay in contact for sure :-)

  • otto 4:13 pm on January 29, 2010 Permalink |

The blog is slowly shutting down. We do not allow anymore comments from outside the earth.org team members. The team can still post. Thanks for all your positive feedback, which is overwhelming.

Dear all who were involved in such a fantastic project,

I will miss working with you and hope this is just the beginning for our global community that has been created.

Thank you so much Otto and Mathias for founding the project – I have learned so much from you and earth.org will always be so much more to me than just a website….I hope we meet again soon, Cat

    Hi everybody,
Earth.org may not continue but the spirit it has started will continue in our heart. I consider all ambassadors of Earth.org as my friends who are close to my heart. If anyone of you are planning to visit this part of the earth then be my guest. Please send me invitation in facebook to get connected to all of you.

Hey, Babu – as I’ve already said: Don’t wonder when I will be knocking at your door :) Let us keep the spirit, all feedback from Ambassadors is very positive – we have connected the last weeks much more so that I think we will be in touch anyway.

It’s getting quiet here. And I am sad. It will take some time for me to realize all that. I am writing down my thoughts here cause I want to tell you how much I love this project and everybody around. Within the past three years Earth.org changed my life in many different ways – I went to India, I met some of the greatest people on earth and we became friends, and I could work on a project which filled my life with a deeper purpose.
For me, Earth.org will still be there! It’s us who are Earth.org. It’s Mathias and Otto who had a unique and admireable idea first and started building a house! It’s the tech team who was so passionate about creating a wonderful architecture for that house! It’s the design team who coloured this house! It’s the marketing team with all their great ideas and creative thoughts! It’s the usabilty team and product developers who built the stairs in this house so that everybody could walk in easily! It’s Anne and her HR team who found and invited the best team you could ever imagine to this house! It’s Coni who made all those beautiful pictures in this house. It’s the dedicated volunteers and helping hands who supported Earth.org all the time. And it’s the Earth.org Travellers who left their footprints at Earth.org!

Yeah, definitely, that was lots of fun. It was tough sometimes. But hell yeah, we had an amazing time together and writing down all that makes me smile again! Thank you all!
Special thanks go to my PR team – girls you did a great job – let’s keep in touch and support each other!

See you around. You are always most welcome to my place in Austria.
    Teresa

Hi all, the last two days I had so many really nice – and despite the situation also so positive – talks to you. And these talks make it a bit easier for me to handle this situation. I’m afraid I’ll never work again in such a great environment and with such a great team as I did in the last years with you. I’m really sad that this is all over now, but in the end we had to take this decision. And I think we all grew personally with this project and the project changed ourselfs. So finally even if the website didn’t survive all this will not be useless and it will leave effects also in the long run. Thanks again to all of you!!

@team: And some team members would like to keep their email ID @earth.org. We love this – you are all invited to continue to use longterm your @earth.org email. A good way also to keep in contact, aside from xing, linkedIn, facebook, foursquare and the real world visiting of each other. And I agree with Eva, my house will also always be open for you.

We have decided not to continue with Earth.org – with immediate effect.
    Some might think why?
We have ten thousands of users visiting the site every month and they have not done what we suggested them to do: Become engaged and contributing users on the open travel guide Earth.org. And spread the news to friends – the growth base for every website. This is the core of our decision – what else shall it be?
Some might think why so soon?
We have been working over years on this website – always with a 100% positive approach. We can either be 100% positive – or we do not work for Earth.org. This was always our thinking. We do not think there is a world in-between.
    And now?
We continue to stay positive – this was by far greatest team experience most of us ever had: We see, also after this decisions and our talks to each other, that we enjoyed working on Earth.org, we have had an incredible learning curve and a small universe of pictures and situations pass bye, maybe even and especially because we have been such an international remote team. Thank you team, you were the best – and you will continue to be! :-)

I am logging in for one of the last times probably. It feels really strange that what has been such a big part of my life for the past few years, will not just be left behind, it will be gone. It feels like I am loosing a really good friend…

I want to thank everyone who I have had the honour and pleasure to work with here at Earth.org. Your fantastic positive spirit and dedicated involvement has only strenghtened my belief that we live in a beautiful world, with beatiful people. And that if we find a way to “connect” and work together on a common cause, we can truly change the world. This team achieved something amazing with Earth.org, something that we can be really proud of, don’t forget that!

And finally, I want to say a special word of thanks to Otto and Mathias, for giving me the wonderful opportunity to be part of it all.

      See you around,
      Rob

Just learned of this decision via tnooz. Sorry to see this as I was just admiring the site a few days ago!

Would you consider letting the content you have live on though?! If I am not mistaken our wiki travel guides share the same creative commons license and we would be very happy to see if there isn’t some way to work your content into what we already have. I believe we share a very similar philosophy, and I’m sure our team of regular contributors would love this opportunity. We are also a few million characters short of our goal of 20 million to donate over 6000 dollars worth of hippo rollers to Africa and this would help a lot, thus letting the effort put in here touch the lives of thousands in Africa for years to come. Naturally we will be able to attribute it in some way.

I have to say I am sad that it looks like we will now be the only independent wiki travel guide left :(

Some blogs might have misunderstood this post in a way that we blame our users for failing. It was never intended like this, and we would like to correct this: Obviously we built a far too complex product and we have made big mistakes in product design. Our usability team and the technical team tried to reduce complexity over the last months, but realistically it would take 12 months to finish something, what creates good value and fun to our users.
We say sorry for these misleading words.

Thank you for all the great time, we had together! I always enjoyed working with you and being part of such a outstanding and big idea! We left our footprints in order to creat a better world and that is actually an amazing feeling!
If you ever come to Argentina, my house will always be open for you!
    See you!!!
